Japanese Aucuba (Aucuba japonica) is a perennial evergreen ornamental shrub with large, glossy, leathery green leaves, often decorated with golden-yellow speckles in variegated varieties. It produces small reddish-purple flowers in spring, while female plants may develop bright red berries when pollinated; mature shrubs typically reach 1.5–3 metres in height and spread, making them ideal for shaded gardens, borders and ornamental landscaping.
